when we first came to delhi, we stayed at a nice large mp's bungalow in
canning lane for a while, where 25 years ago almost to the day my
little brother and i discovered a bulbul's nest in a thicket with lovely
blue eggs in it. we put it back. we used to try catch mynahs in an
improvised bird trap using an upturned bucket and some string, but the
mynahs always got away - good for us. summers must've been just as hot
as they are now, but we never felt the heat, just endless, dreamy, carefree days of summer
vacation, roamin the very quiet, "exclusive" neighborhood with broad
avenues and parks and kerala school just opposite and the MEA hostel
next door... india gate a stone's throw away, cp just a walk ... we
never got to know when the bulbul chicks hatched, but 25 years later,
those memories of the days of youth, childhood, innocence are still as
fresh, as vivid as then ... that's the delhi i'll always remember, always
cherish, always want to come back to, always want to die in...
for sai, my dear young brother
